Southwest Gastroenterology is a company in Albuquerque, NM 87109. We are professional and social. We are a very busy Endoscopy center, we see any where from 60-70 patients a day. This job is a demanding job on your feet.

JOB PROFILE

POSITION TITLE: Registered Nurse

SUPERVISOR: Charge Nurse/ Director

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Tech, Receptionist

STATUS: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:

To work as part of a team providing nursing care to patients/families by utilizing the nursing process. To prioritize the delivery of direct nursing care, using time and resources efficiently. To assist physicians with procedures. To supervise personnel who are assigned to work area. To work collaboratively with office staff. To make nursing judgments and decisions; assume responsibility for nursing care and documentation. To assist in carrying out safe aseptic technique and procedures. Offers leadership and direction to non-RN staff.

MAJOR DUTIES/CRITICAL TASKS:

Under general supervision –

  • Provide direct patient care
  • Coordinate patient care with patient, family and other members of the healthcare team
  • Administer medication and treatments as prescribed by physician
  • Assists physician with various procedures or delegate/assign to other healthcare team members as appropriate
  • Assist in orientation of new staff
  • Serve as a resource person and professional role model
  • Responsible for current nursing research and standards
  • Responsible for the clinical supervision of non-licensed assistive personnel
  • Assess patient on arrival and throughout stay
  • Able to initiate IV therapy
  • Prepare rooms, equipment and supplies to accommodate patient load
  • Monitor patients before, during and after procedures
  • Provide patient education
  • Able to clean, disinfect and/or sterilize instruments and equipment
  • Ensures equipment is in working order prior to patient care
  • Documents nursing care given, including patient response
  • Re-stocks room daily
  • Demonstrates economic use of supplies and equipment
  • Ensures a clean and tidy work area throughout the day
  • Responsible for complete and thorough performance of assigned tasks
  • Follows established rules, regulations and policies
  • Notifies supervisor of any safety issues
  • Participates in CQI activities as assigned
  • Assume leadership role as required
  • Performs other functions as required

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates, Diploma or Bachelors degree in nursing
  • Current New Mexico nursing license
  • 2-3 years of medical-surgical experience
  • Current CPR certification
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Up to date on all vaccinations

Abilities:

  • Mental Power: Ability to make decisions is varied but is usually confined to situations which are familiar. Ability to identify several defined alternative solutions which are available. Ability to exercise choice in how work is accomplished with independence to operate within established policies, procedures and schedules.
  • Physical Power: On feet/walks 9-11 hours a day. Assumes and maintains various postural positions including but not limited to: kneeling, reaching, stooping, bending, and crouching. Repositions patients. Transfers patients.
  • Push/Pull wheelchair. Apply abdominal pressure.
  • Able to lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds.
  • Ability to pass Drug and Alcohol Screen

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standard endoscopy environment including possible exposure to communicable diseases, injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments

OTHER:

  • Able to accept supervision and benefit from constructive criticism
  • Exhibits cooperation, self-control and courtesy in relating to co-workers and job related contacts
  • Complies with attendance requirements
  • Demonstrates respect for authority, discusses problems and follows chain of command
  • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patients rights are protected
  • Demonstrates commitment to excellence in guest relations'

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $31.58 - $45.13 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
